GLEN ROCK HISTORICAL & PRESERVATION SOCIETY

The Hopper family burial ground originally lay between two branches of the Hopper family farms and served as the final resting place for members of both extended families. The earliest known burial was in 1804
There are actually 31 gravestones currently visible in the Hopper Family Burying Ground. Elizabeth Alyea's stone is the only one that is vertical; the others are all laid flat in the ground. Family names (besides Hopper) include DEMAREST, VAN EMBURGH, SPEAR, COURTER, GOETSCHIUS, ACKERMAN, WESTERVELT, LYDECKER, WILLIAMS, VOORHIS, and VAN WAGNER.
The GRH&PS does not know the exact number of people interred at this cemetery. Some of the records were lost with the families as it was a private cemetery.
